How to Prepare for Spring!

To have your home look beautiful and feel nice even in the winter, spring cleaning is the way to go. In the spring, it's time to prepare for the warmer weather and make sure you have plenty of water and sun to your lawn and flowerbeds. You don't want to be watering a dry and dead patch of lawn for much of the season, and having bare, brown dirt in your garden will just be depressing.

You should always have a well-kept garden and the right plants in the right place at all times, but if you find yourself stuck for time, and you're not sure what to do with all that old stuff you have lying around in the garden, we've found a few ideas that will help you decide what to do with your summer crops.

Fertilizing

You should always fertilize your plants as soon as they start sprouting in the spring, but if you have older plants, you can fertilize them at this point. If you plant seedlings now, you can fertilize them every two to three weeks.

The best fertilizers to use for spring-planted vegetables are ones that contain nitrogen and phosphorous. Examples include 10-10-10, 20-20-20 or 20-20-20-20 fertilizer.

If you have some older, full-grown plants, your best bet is to apply a 10-20-20 fertilizer once a month.

Gardening

The main thing to keep in mind in the spring is to keep your garden healthy, which is made easier if you know which plants to start early.

We have included a list of plants below to start you off with, but it is by no means an exhaustive list. You may also want to check out the following websites for more information.

The following are plants that you could start at any time of year. Start seeds indoors, direct sow them in a greenhouse or container if you have the space, or plant them out when it is safe to do so.
